Painting Churches
by Tina Howe
June 27 – July 14
Gardner and Fanny Church are preparing to move out of their Beacon Hill house to their summer cottage on Cape Cod. Gardner, once a famous poet, is now retired. He slips in and out of senility as his wife Fanny valiantly tries to keep them both afloat. They have asked their daughter, Mags, to come home and help them move. Mags agrees, for she hopes as well to finally paint their portrait. She is on the verge of artistic celebrity herself and hopes, by painting her parents, to come to terms with them and they with her.

Heroes
by Gérald Sibleyras, translated by Tom Stoppard
July 18 – August 4
In Heroes, we meet three World War I veterans – Henri, Gustave and Phillippe – who pass their monotony-filled days in a military hospital by engaging in verbal battle of long-forgotten military campaigns, grumblings about the staff, and reflections of their lives. Their cantankerous camaraderie becomes strained when Gustave conjures up an escape plan. Looking over the cemetery to the poplars beyond, they dream of freedom. Will today be the day they finally make it to Indochina or only as far as the top of the hill?
