Executive Director

JERRY M. FINN (Executive Director) was born in Newark , N.J. and got his first job in radio at age 14 on radio station WBGO in Newark . Following his formal training at Emerson College in Boston and law school at Boston University, he pursued a career in professional theater and radio drama and performed in over 100 productions before settling down to winning over smaller audiences in courtrooms in New Jersey. He is a member of the Bars of New Jersey and Massachusetts and is admitted before the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court of the U.S. He is former president of the Plaintiffs Trial Lawyers of New Jersey and a member of the board of directors of the American Trial Lawyers Association. Jerry was a partner and chief trial lawyer in the New Jersey law firm of Schneider, Goldberger, Cohen & Finn for over 30 years until his retirement and relocation to Florida . After arriving in Sarasota as a full-time residents in 1999, Jerry and his wife Terri, a journalist, founded the Banyan Theater Company in 2002. Jerry has performed as an actor in several prior Banyan seasons, playing The Waiter in Harold Pinter’s Betrayal in the inaugural season, Alex Gal in Tom Stoppard’s Rough Crossing and Telegin in Uncle Vanya. He also played the role of Bobby Franklyn in Run For Your Wife at The Lemon Bay Playhouse in Englewood and the lead role of Hamilton Orr in Smoke and Mirrors at the Island Players in Anna Maria Island. Although his heart is on the stage rather than behind it, as Banyan has become an important part of Sarasota Culture Jerry has concentrated on the greatly increased duties of executive director.
 

Artistic Director

CAROLE KLEINBERG has directed over 70 plays, including award-winning productions of The Diary of Anne Frank and The Elephant Man. Local audiences enjoyed her productions of I Never Saw Another Butterfly and The World of Sholom Aleichem at The Players of Sarasota, Crossing Delancey at the Sarasota Jewish Theatre and the Lemon Bay Playhouse, and Mixed Emotions at the Island Players. Carole conceived and directed the original staged readings Movies that Changed My Life and Uncommon Woman: A Tribute to Wendy Wasserstein with the Women’s Theatre Collaborative, and most recently directed Private High, a substance abuse prevention play that is performed for local high schools. As education director for the Asolo Repertory Theatre, she managed the Access to the Arts program, presented theater classes, and co-produced the Kaleidoscope Musical Theatre Workshop. In her former position as professor of theater at Oakton Community College on Chicago’s north shore, Carole was the lead director for mainstage productions and coordinated acting programs.

DAVID ABOLAFIA (T. Stedman Harder, A Moon for the Misbegotten) is making his Florida professional stage debut. Locally, he was last seen in The Mermaid’s Secret as part of Theatre Odyssey’s 10-Minute Play Festival. At various theaters around New York, he appeared in The Tempest (Caliban), Pack of Lies (Peter), An Enemy of the People (Peter), Gemini (Fran), A Hatful of Rain (Chuch) and Dangerous Corner (Robert), among many others. He has also directed Fools, P.S. Your Cat is Dead, Sleuth and his own Lonely Hours. He is the author of two mystery novels and his one-act play, Dead, has been produced around the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
 

SÉVA ANTHONY (Lane, The Clean House) is happy to be making her debut with the Banyan Theater. Recently, Seva was seen as Go-to-Hell Kitty at the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre's production of Chicago and in prior productions of Evita and Funny Girl. Other recent local credits include Bernarda in The House of Bernarda Alba (Historic Asolo Theatre) and Frida Kahlo in Casa Blue (American Stage). She performed for several seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Pendragon Theatre and toured internationally as a dancer and aerialist. She holds a B.A. in dance and received her dramatic training at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the American Conservatory Theatre. Originally from upstate New York, Seva presently lives in Sarasota with her lovable Bichon, Brise.

 

KARINA BARROS* (Matilde, The Clean House) is a professional singer, dancer and performer with over 10 years of stage experience as a solo artist and lead singer/performer.  She acted in Brazilian plays at the University Anhembi Morumbi of São Paulo, Department of Theater (1997-2000); hosted specials on South Florida’s Brazilian station TV Brazil; has released several CDs of her own compositions; performed in Haiti for the president of Haiti and ambassador of Brazil; and is working with Florida Atlantic University’s music director Michael Zager on her new album.  She trained in classical ballet for 16 years; is skilled in Brazilian, Afro, Latin, jazz and hip hop dances; plays guitar; and speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English. She has just graduated with honors from FAU with a theater performance major. She acted in many theater productions at FAU including Bye Bye Birdie, Carousel and Thurber Carnival as well as The Caldwell Theatre’s professional production of The Clean House playing Matilde. She hails from São Paulo, Brazil.

 
J BLOOMROSEN* (Saul Kimmer, True West) spent the last 30 or so years working backstage, on such things as the original NY productions of Driving Miss Daisy, The Foreigner, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune and many others.  He is overjoyed to be back in front of the lights, rather than hanging them, after his decades-long acting hiatus.  He recently portrayed mob boss Sam Giancana in Florida Stage’s reading of Dirty Business, and has appeared in the films Nightmare and The Lady In The Water. J is also an internationally recognized photographer of rock and roll bands.
 
R. WARD DUFFY* (Lee, True West) most recently appeared as Juror #7 in the regional premier of Twelve Angry Men at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. Off-Broadway: Lincoln Center, New Dramatists, Cherry Lane TheaterRegional credits include Othello at the Tony Award winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Three Musketeers at the Pioneer Theatre; Indian Ink and Machinal at Missouri Repertory Theatre; Long Day's Journey Into Night at Merrimack Repertory Theatre; Dinner With Friends at Portland Stage; Snakebit at TheatreFest; State of the Union at Indiana Repertory Theatre; and As You Like It and Cyrano with Eric Hissom at the Asolo. Film and television credits include Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Knight of Prosperity, Untold Stories of the Navy Seals, Ghost Stories, Liability Crisis, As the World Turns, All My Children, The Guiding Light.  Mr. Duffy earned his M.F.A. from the Asolo Conservatory.
 
ROBERT M. HEFLEY* (James Tyrone, Jr., A Moon for the Misbegotten) appeared earlier this year in The Unexpected Man with his wife Nona Pipes in the Historic Asolo. ROBERT HERRLE* (Charles, The Clean House) Originally from New York, Robert now calls Orlando home for he and his daughter Danielle. Recent Florida credits include the Orlando Repertory Theatre where Mr. Herrle performed the roles of Fred Gaily in Miracle on 34th Street and The Old Man in A Christmas Story. Other Florida credits are with Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens and nearly every dinner show attraction in central Florida. Mr. Herrle also does modeling and stage management work. Though most of his stage management credits are national, a few Floridian credits include the Winter Park Playhouse, Orlando Theatre Project, Lemon Bay Performing Arts Center and Florida Studio Theatre. Modeling credits are with Crealde School of Art, Maitland School of Art, EA Sports and the D.A.V.E. School out of Universal Studios.
 

ERIC HISSOM* (Austin, True West) returns to the Banyan for a third year, after appearing during the last two seasons in Life X 3, A Doll House and Faith Healer. Since receiving his M.F.A. from Florida State’s Asolo Conservatory in 1989, he has worked steadily in regional theater as an actor, director and playwright. Regional acting credits include productions at Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, the Meadowbrook in Detroit, the Arden in Philadelphia, Cape Playhouse on Cape Cod, Syracuse Stage, the Orlando Shakespeare Festival, Florida Studio Theatre and many others, including a recent production of Macbeth at the Folger Theatre in Washington, D.C. which was co-directed by Teller (of Penn and Teller). Television credits include Mortal Kombat, Sheena: Queen of the Jungle and One Tree Hill. Feature film credits: Out of Time.

 
NINA HUGHES (Mom, True West) As a young student, Nina won dramatic reading awards in competitive forensics in Michigan. In addition to her early training, she studied theater at Wayne State University’s Classic Theatre. She moved to New York City upon marrying and became an interior designer known for large-scale commercial and historic preservation projects.  For her expertise and service to the design profession, she was made a Fellow of the American Society of Interior Designers. Since retiring, she has returned to her theatrical roots. Recent performances include: Mrs. Kilbride in By The Bog of Cats, Delia in A Bedroom Farce, Sister Clarissa in Over The Tavern at Venice Little Theatre; Bubbie in Crossing Delancey, Mrs. Bradman in Blithe Spirit at Lemon Bay Playhouse; and Doris Cooper in Flying Object, a play reading at The Players Theatre.
 
GERALDINE LIBRANDI* (Virginia, The Clean House) was last seen in Sarasota as Inez in the Banyan Theater’s production of Life X 3, as Ursula in Banyan's Vincent in Brixton, and in the award-winning role of Filumena in the Asolo Theatre’s production of Filumena. This past spring, Geraldine performed the role of Sister Aloysius in Doubt at The Triad Stage and can be seen as Patty Leotardo in The Sopranos. Geraldine has performed Off-Broadway with The American Place Theatre, WPA and The Manhattan Theatre Club and Off-Off Broadway in the title role of Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre. Regional credits include the Delaware Theatre Company, Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, Dallas Theater Center, Long Wharf Theatre, Arkansas Rep, American Repertory Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre (Seattle) and The Fulton Opera House among many others. Geraldine won the Portland Drama Critics Circle Award for her portrayal of Beatrice in A View From The Bridge and appeared in the highly acclaimed production of Full Gallop as Diana Vreeland, a role that garnered a best actress award in The Boston Phoenix. Film and television credits in addition to The Sopranos include Law and Order: Criminal Intent, All My Children, Medicine Ball, Against The Law and Mr. North.
 
STEVE McALLISTER (Mike Hogan, A Moon for the Misbegotten) is proving himself as one of today's most versatile artists, be it behind a camera, with a pen in his hand, or with a guitar strapped to his chest. After completing his acclaimed book The Rucksack Letters, this Sarasota native made his acting debut in The Eclectic Theatre's Got a Minute? Play Festival. He has since performed in Private High, his one-man show The Rucksack Cabaret, and the short film Yearning for Light. He has recently released the documentary DVD Attention Deficit Disorder: Life at a Different Pace.Later this year he will be releasing his next book, Artists Must Play CARDS, co-authored with artist Gale Fulton Ross.
 
ANN MORRISON* (Ana, The Clean House), an award-winning professional actor for over 25 years, starred on Broadway in Merrily We Roll Along (Theatre World Award), and returned in 2007 for Lovemusik. Off-Broadway: Goblin Market, Forbidden Broadway. London’s West End: Peg. Los Angeles: Blame It On The Movies II, Anyone Can Whistle. She has worked at many regional theaters across the country. Annie is well known for cabaret performances and has made over a dozen recordings and appeared on television and national commercials.  Ann has taught acting and storytelling through Florida’s school system. She is co-founder and artistic director of two theater companies for persons with developmental disabilities and an emotional release healer using sound and story for release. She is the scriptwriter for the Puppetry Theatre of Wonderment in New York, and performs her one-woman show Discourse of a Maid based on Celtic mythology and storytelling, and Annie’s Celtic Kitchen, personal theater in your home.
 

STEVEN CLARK PACHOSA* (Phil Hogan, A Moon for the Misbegotten) is delighted to return to Banyan Theater Company’s stage. His portrayal of Victor Franz in The Price garnered a 2004 best actor nomination in Sarasota Magazine. Steven also received best actor awards from Creative Loafing in 2001 and 2006 for his role of The Devil in Gorilla Theatre’s Don Juan in Hell and Jobsite Theater’s The Goat (as Martin). His most recent work at American Stage in St. Petersburg includes Hamlet, Othello, Much Ado About Nothing and The Drawer Boy. Steve has been a cop in 10 television movies and appeared in the following feature films: Men of Honor, Psycho, My Own Private Idaho, Imaginary Crimes, Foxfire, Anoosh of the Airways and Birddog.

 

JESSICA K. PETERSON* (Josie Hogan, A Moon for the Misbegotten) is delighted to be making her Banyan Theater debut. She just finished The Accomplices at Gable Stage, FL and Hamlet at American Stage, FL.  Recent credits include The Glass Menagerie, Blowing Rock Stage, NC and the inaugural Voices at the River, African-American and Latino playwright-in-residence festival at Arkansas Rep. Other credits include Deathtrap, Maltz-Jupiter Theatre; Dairy Queen Days, Blowing Rock Stage; Frozen and Anna in the Tropics at the Hippodrome Theatre (Gainesville). Favorite credits include Copenhagen, Gorilla Theatre, (Tampa); Dinner With Friends and the U.S. premiere of A Prayer For Owen Meany, Playmakers’ Rep (NC); The Music Lesson at both the Dorset Theatre Festival, VT and Florida Stage, where she earned a Carbonell Award for best actress; Hysteria and A Park in Our House, Florida Stage (Carbonell nominations for both); How I Learned to Drive, Caldwell Theatre (Carbonell nomination); Fort Chaffee, Arkansas Rep; Our Country’s Good, Warehouse Theatre (SC). She is a member of AEA and SAG.
